Will Wiarton Willie See his Shadow

by the whole class.  Typed by Mr. McGaughey

Groundhog Day is on Monday February 2.  That’s when Wiarton Willie comes out of his burrow and if he sees his shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter.  If he doesn’t see his shadow, then spring is on its way.  Our class did a survey too see how many kids think that Willie will not see his shadow and how many children think he will see his shadow.

Challenge:  Ask the people in your family if they think Willie will see his shadow.

Family Literacy Day World Record Challenge

January 27 is Family Literacy Day.  ABC Canada is organizing a  Guinness World Record reading of Robert Munsch stories.  To find out more about the world record attempt, go to the FLD World Record Attempt page at ABC Canada’s website.  To be a part of this record, our class read 5 Robert Munsch stories:  Pigs; Mortimer; Purple, Green and Yellow; Murmel Murmel, Murmel; and Something Good.  We are also recording our storytime and we will put it up later, so you can listen with us.

Sythesizing

Sythesizing: Synthesizing is when we learn new things by putting things we already know together in another way. Putting the pieces together in a new way.

Mr. McGaughey taught us to say synthesizing by breaking it up into small pieces. We said syn- the ( the e is like left) -size-ing.

Taking 4 sounds we know and putting them together in a new way shows that we were synthesizing. And now we can say it too.
